Sammy Awuku Hints New Direction For YEA

The new Board Chairman of the Youth Employment Agency (YEA), Mr. Sammi Awuku, has assured Ghanaians that under the tenure of the newly constituted Board, YEA will see a new life, new focus and new direction in its operations and service delivery.

According to Mr. Awuku, the new Board will provide clear direction to management with a revolutionary verve towards transforming YEA and positioning it as the foremost agency for youth employment in the country.

Mr. Awuku, who is also the National Youth Organiser of the New Patriotic Party, was speaking during the inauguration of the YEA Board in Accra, September 15, 2017.

“As a board, we are determined to ensure every Ghanaian youth gets a fair opportunity of being employed by the agency,” he said.

“We will not discriminate on the basis of one's colour, religion, political persuasion or economic status. We shall rigorously encourage participation of youth with special needs (physically challenged or disabled) whom because of their circumstances are not gainfully employed in any venture.”

Mr. Awuku also acknowledged the challenges ahead, especially due to the past record of the YEA.
“It is public knowledge that this noble institution has been popular for all the wrong reasons in recent times. The institution became a vehicle for crony capitalism, grandiose looting and exploitation to the disgust of many,” he said.

The new Board Chairman, however, expressed optimism, stating that, the Board, will aggressively lead the rebranding of YEA to give it a new image and help management deliver on its core mandate.
“We can only achieve this by ridding YEA off any corruptible tendencies. We, therefore, intend as a matter of priority to critically tackle the institutional corruption and rot that has become endemic within the YEA setup,” he stated.

Members of the Board are: Dr Kwame Amoako Tuffour, Lawyer Justin Kodua Frimpong who represents management on the Board, Lawyer Bright Wireko Brobbey, Deputy Minister for Employment and Labour Relations. Other members include Emmanuel Sin Nyet Asigri (AG. CEO of the National Youth Authority) and a Forensic auditor, Mr James Quarshie.

Mr. Ashigbey - who has been the boss of the state-owned company since 2011 - confirmed his resignation through an internal memo to his staff on Friday.

"I have followed your concern about the rumours of my resignation. Such a concern is legitimate because I owe you a duty to inform you that if I have resigned, and I admit that you should be the first to know. I am sorry for leaving you in suspense this while…," the memo stated.

He continued: "The truth is that, I have tendered my resignation to my employer, the NMC. However, they are yet to respond to my letter. Governor Okorocha Says IPOB Agitation Is Child's Play

Governor of Imo state, Rochas Okorocha has ridiculed the agitation of the Indigenous People of Biafra, calling it a child's play.

"I have always said that IPOB is an agitation group, but the captioning is bad when you talk of sovereignty within a sovereign nation and also talking of secession." he said yesterday after aleading a delegation of the forum on a visit to internally displaced persons, IDPs, and victims of the recent Benue flood disaster in Benue State.

He added: "Let me assure you that no Ibo person or man is in support of secession and people must see this as a childish act. We must stand up to address it before it becomes a national problem.

"As for us leaders in that area, it will be insane for anyone to think that the IPOB leader will ask us to follow him to seek secession"

Legalize Marijuana - Ghana Standards Authority Boss

The CEO of Ghana Standards Authority, Prof. Alex Baidoo has called for the legalization of marijuana, popularly known as 'Wee', in the country.

He made this controversial statement when appeared before the Public Accounts Committee of Parliament on Wednesday.

Citing the the legalization of weed in the UK and the US as an example, Mr. Baidoo added that Ghana can get revenue from the exportation of weed.

"In UK, for instance, one can purchase nicely and neatly packaged marijuana from stores for both medical and social use," he said.

"Even though Ghana does not need the medical use of the drug, it will gain immensely from its exportation if it is legalized," he added.

Hmmm... very interesting!

Report: School Heads in Volta Region Are Sabotaging Free SHS

An example is Keta Senior High School, where parents are told to pay 250 cedis for hostel fees.

"I quickly rushed there and asked them to stop but when I left, they told the parents the boarding house is full and turned them away," he said.

Mr. Letsa said he absolutely does not understand why some heads are behaving this way.
